KARACHI:A social media post doing rounds on the internet has brought the allegations against officials of Karachi’s Nipar Police Station into the limelight. The claims come from a female police officer who alleges she was being interfered with in a criminal investigation that was underway. The accusations have led to a widespread debate on social media and calls for an independent inquiry.

It should be noted that these allegations are just that — allegations — and have not been proven as facts in any official investigation or court proceeding.

What the Viral Post Says

In the viral post, a woman police officer has claimed that she was pressurised by senior police officers to deal with a criminal case in a particular manner. According to the female officer, the accused is a foreign national who entered in Pakistan via sea route. He allegedly rape 22 girls and murdered several of them. She further stated that DSP is providing facilities and protocol to the accused inside the police station, while she is not being allowed to investigate the case.

People appeal to Mr. Bilawal Bhutto if these allegations are true then take immediate action to uncover the truth and deliver justice.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan took immediate notice of the video going viral and directed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South to hold a fact-based inquiry and present a detailed report regarding the matter.

The importance of verification

Verification is necessary in cases of serious criminal accusations. What can happen is that unverified information can spread quickly online and damage reputations or change public opinion before the truth is known.
