Doctors Protest in Kohat after Dr Mehwish Shot DeadBreaking

February 26, 2026

Where there is no rule of law, no accountability, and no fear of consequences, people do not hesitate to cross every limit of humanity. A tragic incident in Kohat has once again exposed the harsh reality of our society and forced us to reflect on how far we have fallen as a nation. We must ask ourselves whether we have failed collectively in building a society where respect, restraint, and justice prevail.

Dr. Mehwish, a dedicated and capable doctor, was on duty at a hospital in Kohat when the incident began. Her “mistake” was simply asking a man to wait in the designated men’s waiting area. The man had accompanied his wife for a checkup but was standing in the female waiting area, causing discomfort among the women present. As part of her professional responsibility, Dr. Mehwish requested that he move to the appropriate section. Instead of complying respectfully, the man allegedly began misbehaving. Although he eventually left the hospital with his wife, it appears his ego remained bruised.

Later, as Dr. Mehwish was on her way home in a rickshaw, she was shot multiple times. She died on the spot. A life dedicated to healing others was brutally taken over a matter that should never have escalated beyond a simple instruction.

This horrifying act is not just an attack on one individual; it is a reflection of a deeper societal crisis. Are we truly prepared to accept that enforcing basic rules and maintaining boundaries can cost someone their life? Where is our justice system? Where is the protection for those who serve the public with integrity and professionalism?

Dr. Mehwish was known as a talented and committed medical professional. Pakistan has once again lost a capable daughter and a devoted doctor. Her death is not only a personal tragedy for her family but a national loss.

Following the incident, doctors in Kohat staged protests, demanding justice for Dr. Mehwish and greater protection for healthcare professionals. Their call is not only for accountability in this specific case but also for systemic change to ensure that such violence does not become the norm.

Justice for Dr. Mehwish is not just a slogan — it is a test of whether we, as a society, are willing to stand for the rule of law and the safety of those who dedicate their lives to serving others.
