British airline Virgin Atlantic is playing a significant role in Pakistan's aviation industry by connecting the country’s businesspeople to international markets, Senate Committee on Aviation Chairman Faisal Saleem Rahman said. Pakistani tourists and students are also gaining from the airline's travel services, he said during his speech at a celebration for Virgin Atlantic's second year of operations in Pakistan. Senator Faisal said that being one of the world's largest airlines, it also offers top-notch services in Pakistan. He stated that Virgin Atlantic's investment in Pakistan's aviation sector will help the country's economy too.
South Asia Country Manager for Virgin Atlantic Alex McEwan, in his message on the occasion, said that the airline has transported 13 million kilogrammes of cargo and served 330,000 people since its inception. Even though the last two years has been extremely difficult, the airline has continued to operate throughout that period, he pointed out.Alex said that Pakistan's post-flood situation is getting better and added that the airline has also assisted the flood victims.
Vice President of Gerrys Group's Airline Division Munir Siddiqui speaking at the event said strong relationships exist between GSA, Virgin Atlantic, Travel Trade, and the local government in Pakistan. The aviation sector faces enormous problems, he said and added, “We, working together, have proven that we can overcome any obstacles in the path to success.”
