Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque has informed that trials to assess the coverage of 5-G technology will start soon in various major cities of the country. He shared the information while meeting with a delegation of Etisalat International headed by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mikhail Gerchuk.
During the meeting various matters related to 5-G technology and the telecom sector were discussed. The Minister said that the government is working around the clock to increase the penetration of internet technologies in the country adding that, “we will launch the trial runs of 5-G technology as soon as possible.”
He said that Pakistan attaches great importance to the adoption of technology adding that 5-G holds strategic importance in the global race of technology development and digitalization. He continued, “the Ministry of IT is extending full support to the telecom companies of the country. We urge the telecom companies to play their role in bringing modern technology to Pakistan.”
Amin-ul-Haq also said that he is personally supervising the initiatives which are being launched for the facilitation of telecom sector in the adoption of strategic technologies especially the 5-G. Members of the delegation appreciated the efforts of the Minister in helping the telecom sector develop and expand its reach in far-off regions of the country.
They also expressed their interest in investing in the telecom sector of the country and said that Pakistan can benefit a lot if it actively pursues policies to facilitate investors from abroad especially those who wanted to invest in science and technology. The meeting was also attended by CEO of Etisalat Pakistan Abdulrahim Al Nooryani; President and CEO of PTCL & Ufone Hatem Bamatraf; Chief Regulatory Officer Naveed Butt and Additional Secretary (In charge) of Ministry of IT Mohsin Mushtaq.
