Trade between Pakistan, Poland reaches € 800 million

Ambassador of Poland to Pakistan Maciej Pisarski has said that efforts of both the Polish and Pakistani governments have helped to increase the bilateral trade volume to € 800 million. He said that since Pakistan was given the GSP+ status by the European Union, trade between Pakistan and Poland has been steadily growing. He added that Poland was the fastest-growing market for Pakistani products.

He continued, “we don’t want a relationship with Pakistan based on commerce only. We want to further strengthen our partnership with Pakistan based on people-to-people contacts, cultural exchanges, and working to find solutions to our common problems.” He added, “we want to see Pakistan a developed country. There is a strong desire in the Polish business community to expand their businesses in Pakistan.”

The Ambassador further said that we will strengthen our partnership with Pakistan through sharing technology, collaborating to strengthen the digital infrastructure of the country and working on climate change. He also said that Pakistan and Poland can work in Defence which is all the more important for both countries given their strategic geo-political locations. The Ambassador delivered these remarks while speaking at the occasion of celebrating Poland’s Independence Day and Polish Armed Forces Day.

He said that the jewel in the crown of our economic cooperation was the contribution of Polish companies operating in Pakistan like the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNIG) and Exallo Drilling, working to strengthen Pakistan’s energy security. He continued by saying that PGNIG has invested more than three hundred million dollars in developing gas extraction projects in Sindh province. The company has brought innovative technology and unique know-how with it to exploit Pakistani gas for commercial purposes.

He highlighted the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries going back 60 years and said that the two countries will continue to work in the future to find solutions to common problems like the climate change. He said, “our relationship has matured and solidified with time. We are close friends and effective international partners. We have worked together to increase regional stability and international peace and we have put our people at the center of our cooperation.” He said that Poland valued its historical links with Pakistan and enjoyed the multifaceted collaboration and that both countries were significantly developing their political, economic and defense cooperation.
