Textile exporters to participate in Texworld show

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is providing an opportunity to traders and exporters to expand their business by participating in Texworld-Apparel show in the United States, which would help explore new markets. TDAP is offering subsidised stalls for exhibitors to showcase a wide range of textile products, including kitchen linen, table linen, floor covering, fabric cotton, jacquard weaves, kitchen, outdoor, lace, table top, pillow, wall covering, upholstery, denim, cotton, trim and accessories, embroidery/lace, jacquard, linen, wool, knits, woven, polo shirts/shirting, yarn knits/top outerwear/coats, pants/bottoms, shocks/hosiery, shawls/scarves, suiting, sweater and T-shirts.

According to data from All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), the exports of textile products during April 2023 were valued at $1.24 billion, marking a 29% decrease from the same month of last year when exports stood at $1.74 billion. Moreover, total textile exports for the first 10 months (July-April) of the current fiscal year (2022-23) were recorded at $13.71 billion. However, data from TDAP shows that exports of major textile products declined in March 2023.

Exports of bed linen, table linen, toilet linen, and kitchen linen declined by 22.2% to $300 million during March 2023 from $386 million during the same month of 2022. A decline of 22.6% was recorded in exports of woven fabrics of cotton during the month under review. Exports of woven fabrics of cotton fell to $113 million during March 2023 from $146 million during the corresponding period of last year.

Exports of men's or boys' suits, ensembles, jackets, trousers, bib and brace overalls, breeches and shorts also dropped by 23.1% during March to $276 million from $359 million during the same period of last year. A decline of 23.8% was recorded in the exports of cotton yarn other than sewing thread. Export volume of cotton yarn other than sewing thread went down to $67 million during the month under review from $88 million during the same month of 2022.

Exports of T-shirts, singlets and other vests, knitted or crocheted, also posted a negative growth of 30% during March. The export volume of was recorded at $53 million during the month under review against $76 million during the corresponding period of last year. A 22.7% decline was also recorded in the export of men's or boys' shirts, knitted or crocheted. Exports dropped to $49 million during March from $63 million during the same month of 2022.

On the other hand, a slight increase of 1.5% was recorded in women’s or girls’ suits and export volume remained at $36 million in March 2023. Decline in the country’s total exports in March also caused a negative growth in exports to top five markets including US, China, UK, and Germany. Texworld Evolution USA, the winter edition of this event, hosted exhibitors from 17 countries and welcomed nearly 3,500 visitors in 2023. Now, the summer edition is set to take place from July 18-20, 2023, at the Javits Centre in New York City.
