Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has expressed satisfaction over the availability and production of sugar in the country, WealthPK reports. Chairing a meeting to review the demand and supply situation of sugar in the country, the minister stressed the need for maintaining the strategic reserves of the commodity and maintaining its price for providing maximum relief to the people. The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Tariq Bashir Cheema; Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance Tariq Bajwa, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha and secretaries of relevant departments.
The meeting reviewed the situation of the available stock of sugar and the future demand for the commodity in the country. The participants of the meeting were informed that sufficient stock of sugar is available in the country. Sugar mills have started crushing sugarcane in Sindh and Punjab provinces. The production of sugar in Sindh would be less than that of last year due to the recent devastating floods, according to a press release received by WealthPK.
