Government officials are responsible for ensuring that everyone has access to standardised seeds and fertilisers, said Ahmad Aziz Tarar, the secretary for agriculture for Punjab.
Chairing a meeting at the Agriculture House, he said farmers must be educated about new technologies in order to boost output. “This will guarantee high-quality production, which is what the government wants the most,” he said.
During the meeting, the secretary of agriculture approved the formation of a sub-committee under the chairmanship of director general of agriculture (extension) to oversee and plan the "grow more wheat" campaign.
Ahmad Aziz Tarar added that he would personally oversee the effort to increase wheat production and that any negligence in this area would not be tolerated. He instructed Director General of Agriculture (Extension) Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali to use media vans during the wheat sowing campaign to inform farmers about the approved varieties of wheat.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Agriculture (Marketing) Waqar Hussain, Director General Agriculture (Pest Warning) Rana Faqir Ahmad and other senior officers.
