South Punjab gets Rs 237 billion for rapid development

December 08, 2022

With the allocation of a separate development budget by the Punjab government, a new era of progress has started in the underdeveloped south Punjab.  Some Rs 237 billion are being used for various development programmes in agriculture, health, and education, while livestock is the government’s primary focus, Secretary Services South Punjab Nausheen Malik said. Relative to the population ratio, south Punjab is receiving more development funds, she added.

She was speaking to a group of senior officers attending the 35th Mid-career Management Course, sponsored by the National Institute of Management (NIM) Islamabad. This step will aid in reducing poverty and boosting people’s standards of living, Nausheen said and added that from an agricultural standpoint, south Punjab is a particularly productive location. She said the Education Department’s attempts to organise the school Olympics and create student councils in schools are praiseworthy.

The South Punjab Education Department holds the honour of opening the first transgender school in the country, she added. Service delivery in rural regions has improved as a result of an efficient monitoring system in the health sector, Nausheen said. Similar to this, several initiatives for the growth of the cattle and fishing industries are currently underway. Plans to build mini-dams on nullahs in the DG Khan Division are also being prepared, she continued.
