Skilled manpower imperative for sustainable development: VC

October 07, 2022

Skilled manpower was imperative to achieving sustainable development in the country, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan has said.  Pakistan was blessed with talented and creative youth and students should devote their time and energies to acquiring knowledge and skills, he said addressing the welcome ceremony for new entrants to the undergraduate programmes.

Dr Iqrar Ahmad urged the teaching community to take tangible measures for honing the god given qualities of students. The UAF was ensuring quality education and research work, and providing state-of-the-art facilities, he added. “We have to think out of the box and find innovative solutions to problems of society and industry,” he said, adding that there was a need to polish the youth’s talent so that they could take part in the development of the country.  Dr Iqrar lamented that with the passage of time youth had given up playing games and the playgrounds gave a deserted look.

A healthy body ensured a healthy mind, he said and advised students to play sports for living a healthy and active life. He said that the UAF was established as the first-ever agriculture institute in 1906 in the sub-continent. The university had the honour of being ranked as the highest seat of agriculture education and research in the country and was placed among the top 100 universities of the world in the agriculture sciences, he added.
