Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has urged the business community to focus on Africa, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and other potential regions to improve the country’s trade and exports.
It is important for the businessmen to focus on non-traditional items in order to enhance the country’s exports, he said while talking to a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) that called on him, led by ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari.
Sanjrani appreciated the business community for playing a key role in the country’s economic development and said the ICCI members will now be included in the Senate chairman’s foreign delegations so that they could explore new markets for promoting exports.
The Senate chairman said that thriving businesses and investment will enable the economy to grow. He reiterated that he will work with the ICCI members in resolving their key issues.
He said he fully supports the Centaurus Mall’s opening after an inferno and that he will soon discuss the issue with the interior minister to resolve it amicably.
Sanjrani asked the ICCI members to cooperate with the Senate of Pakistan in celebrating its golden jubilee in a befitting manner.
Speaking at the occasion, President ICCI Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari said that the Senate, being the upper house of the parliament, has a key role in legislation. He requested that the ICCI should be given representation in the business-related standing committees of the Senate, including commerce, finance, planning and development, industries and production.
It will help in making business-friendly laws in consultation with the business community to make Pakistan an attractive destination for business and investment activities, he added.
Ahsan suggested that the ICCI members should also be included in the Senate chairman’s foreign delegations to explore new avenues for promoting Pakistan’s exports. He said that many foreign delegations often visit the Senate and the ICCI members should be connected with them to explore new prospects for promoting Pakistan’s business and economic interests.
He assured that the ICCI will cooperate with the Senate of Pakistan in celebrating its golden jubilee. He requested that the Senate chairman should cooperate in resolving the key issues of the business community to promote ease of doing business.
