Exports of fish and fish preparations climbed by 12.98% during the first seven months of the current fiscal year compared to the same time the previous year, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The country's seafood exports brought in $261.645 million from July through January of 2022–23 compared to $231.584 million from July through January of 2021–22.
Quantitatively, the exports of fish and fish preparations climbed by 25.72% from 85,830 metric tonnes in the first seven months of last year to 107,908 metric tonnes this year, the PBS said. As compared to January 2022, when exports were $31.111 million, seafood exports climbed by 17.76% year over year to $36.637 million in January 2023.
Exports increased by 75.05% in terms of quantity from 11,204 metric tonnes last year to 19,613 metric tonnes this year. According to PBS statistics, the exports of seafood decreased by 6.55% month over month as compared to the exports of $39.206 million in December 2022.
Fish exports increased by 16.19% in volume in January 2023 compared to the 16,880 metric tonnes exported in December 2022.The total value of the country's food exports was $2,708.552 million between July and January of 2022–23 compared to $2,951.831 million between July and January of 2021–22, showing a decrease of 8.24%.
