The renovation of the Islamabad Museum will increase the number of visitors, including researchers, students and heritage lovers, WealthPK reports. The renovation of the museum was recently completed. Now, 46 artefacts, confiscated in the USA and repatriated to Pakistan, have also been displayed in the museum. The renovated Islamabad Museum was inaugurated by Adviser to Prime Minister for Political, Public Affairs, National Heritage and Culture Engr Amir Muqam.

The inauguration was followed by an introductory briefing while Mr Muqam also chaired an important meeting at the Department of Archaeology and Museum (DOAM). Addressing the inaugural ceremony, he said the new extension of the Islamabad Museum would open new vistas for cultural heritage visitors. Besides the 46 items confiscated in the US, new artefacts from the reserve collection have also been displayed in the museum.

Mr Muqam said that the preservation of history has always been a priority of the world nations. “Museums play a vital role in this regard,” he added. He said that Islamabad Museum was home to cultural heritage and encompassed the entire history from old age to the Mughal period. In Islamabad, an effort has been made to delineate the saga of the evolution of cultures and civilisations in Pakistan through the display of artefacts and works of art.

Islamabad Museum covers the history of Pakistan through artefacts displayed in chronological order, incorporating one of the earliest man-made tools, dating back to two million years, collected from Soan valley, 9,000-year-old objects from Mehrgarh in Balochistan, artefacts of the world celebrated Indus valley civilisation and statutory of Gandhara Civilisation. The PM’s aide said that Islamabad Museum was renovated to extend its splendid attractive and informative display.

He said that the Heritage Division had taken strong and result-oriented steps to reactivate all the departments working under it. Federal Secretary of National Heritage and Culture Fareena Mazhar, Director General of DOAM Azeem Khan and other senior officials were also present on the occasion. Azeem Khan and other senior officials briefed Mr Muqam on the renovation projects and upcoming activities. Later, the PM’s aide also chaired a meeting regarding various projects of DOAM, including renovation schemes and other activities.
