Pakistan Railways will develop its own robust system in Gwadar, considering the city's economic boom brought on by significant investments made by international investors, especially Chinese businesses, said Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Izzat Nazir Baloch while discussing the ongoing megaprojects in Gwadar.
He said that Pakistan Railways Gwadar established offices and appointed officers and other staff and entrusted them with the task of increasing relations with Chinese companies operating in Gwadar Port Authority, Gwadar Development Authority, Gwadar Port and Free Zones. Pakistan Railways will establish a solid system in Gwadar so that it could later fully capitalise on the city's economic expansion, he added.
Izzat Nazir Baloch speaking at another briefing said that Gwadar would begin receiving 100 MW more of power from Iran from March 1, in order to guarantee a constant supply. This will help Gwadar's economy, tourism, and real estate sectors, he added. He said that in order to supply Gwadar with the additional 100 MW of power it would need, the governments of Pakistan and Iran agreed to do so in June 2022.
He said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif instructed the relevant officials to finish the project quickly during his visit to Gwadar last year. In June of previous year, the 132 KV transmission line from Jiwani to Gwadar received approval from the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), he added. Construction of the second circuit stringing of 132 KV and construction of the 94-kilometer transmission line from Jiwani to Gwadar will also be completed at a cost of Rs2,322.940 million, he added.
