Punjab engages university students to launch wheat campaign

November 03, 2022

The Punjab government in collaboration with two major agriculture universities of the province have jointly launched a campaign to boost wheat production by raising awareness among farmers.

Vice-Chancellor of PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman said that during the campaign, instructions will be given to the farmers on how to utilise modern agricultural machinery and equipment with new techniques, fertilisers, and seeds in a balanced and effective manner.

He said 8,000 students from his university would collaborate with the Punjab Agriculture Department to assist farmers in all of Punjab's districts in order to enhance wheat output.

Prof Qamar stated that his institution will make use of all available resources to ensure the campaign's success.

In order to establish a complete plan to improve agriculture on modern lines in the future, he asked the students to record their views and experiences during the campaign.

In addition to organising seminars, road shows, and awareness walks, he said, the farmers would also be provided training booklets and other crucial information relating to the most recent technology of wheat cultivation.

According to him, the campaign would not only assist farmers in boosting their productivity by lowering the cost of inputs, but it will also provide students with a chance to learn about the realities on the ground.

The Ministry of Agriculture Punjab and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad both have strongly supported the efforts.

The farmers' community has praised the trio's endeavour since it has given them a chance to enhance their per-acre productivity by lowering the cost of the inputs and by utilising contemporary methods and procedures.
