The German Development Bank — KfW — is supporting a project to improve living conditions and economic opportunities for displaced populations in Pakistan through the construction of community infrastructure and livelihood support initiatives.

According to an official document available with Wealth Pakistan, the Support to Dislocated People in Pakistan project is part of the government’s broader poverty reduction programme. It focuses on addressing the challenges faced by displaced communities in Quetta and Peshawar, which host a significantly high number of displaced and vulnerable populations.

KfW has committed €12.5 million for the project, which is scheduled to close on December 30, 2027, while implementation is yet to begin.

According to the document, the project implementation approach has been finalised. The project implementation consultant will develop the detailed activity list in an inception report, while the terms of reference for the consultant are currently being prepared.

Under the project, community infrastructure will be designed and constructed to address gaps in service delivery caused by the uncontrolled influx of displaced populations in selected areas of Quetta and Peshawar. The infrastructure development component will also ensure maintenance of community physical facilities to improve access to essential services.

The project also includes social mobilisation and awareness programmes aimed at promoting community-based development and encouraging participation of beneficiaries in prioritisation, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure projects.

In addition, the initiative will focus on education and skills development by providing vocational training and livelihood opportunities to displaced populations, enabling them to access paid labour and improve their economic conditions.
