Pakistan Railways has surveyed the restoration of Peshawar to Landi Kotal railway track, closed for train service in 2007 following a flash flood triggered by heavy rains.
The 59.15 kilometers tourist destination track’s infrastructure had suffered substantial damage, including bridges, retaining walls and embankments, an official in the Ministry of Railways told the media.
He said Rs. 1982.470 million PC-1 for the restoration of train service on that section had been prepared, to be sponsored by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The PC-1 would be considered by the approval forum once the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government agreed to finance the project execution, the official added.
To a question, he said the PC-1 of the Main Line-I (ML-1) of the Pakistan Railways had been prepared too as per the Planning Commission’s guidelines. The PC-I for ML-I was duly approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council on the recommendations of the Planning Commission, he added.
