Pakistan urges Saudi Arabia to increase manpower quota

November 08, 2022

Pakistan has appreciated Saudi Arabia’s decision to appoint the first-ever labour attaché to Pakistan.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussain Turi during a meeting with the Labour Attaché of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Majid Bakr, reports WealthPK.

The two discussed matters of mutual interest, employment opportunities for Pakistani professionals in Saudi Arabia, as well as welfare and problems of Pakistani citizens in the Kingdom.

Majid Bakr apprised the minister about the features of Saudi Arabia’s new labour policy.

The minister emphasised the need to increase the quota of Pakistani manpower to the Kingdom, saying Pakistan has available skilled manpower in all sectors and is ready to meet the manpower requirements of the Kingdom. He said the skill verification programme recently launched by both countries would ensure maximum export of skilled workers and professionals to Saudi Arabia.

Sajid Turi said, “I am happy that Saudi Arabia has appointed, for the first time, a labour attaché to Pakistan.”

Majid Bakr said as the condition of sponsor had come to an end, Pakistani labour force could travel to Saudi Arabia by signing a contract with the relevant company. “Under the new policy, workers would also be able to change companies,” he said, adding the Saudi government was providing maximum facilities to the labourers.

Sajid Turi commended the revolutionary reforms in Saudi Arabia's labour policy, and emphasised that Pakistanis imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for minor crimes and lack of documents must be released.
