Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology and Telecommunication Usman Qadri stated that the government is working nonstop to bring 5G technology to the nation in order to give the people access to cutting-edge internet facilities. Speaking in the National Assembly, Usman said that the ministry posted draft 5G policy guidelines on its website in December 2021.
He said that to determine if the market was prepared for the adoption of 5G in the nation, the ministry and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) spoke with all relevant parties. After the government issues the policy direction, the PTA would need around 10 months to finish the country's 5G launch procedure, he continued. In addition, he said, the business case for the rollout of 5G is more closely related to spectrum availability and its demand.
Before the deployment of 5G spectrum, the essential frameworks for the capabilities of 5G technology, such as infrastructure sharing, spectrum sharing, and spectrum re-farming, must be completed, he added. In response to a query, he stated that the government is working diligently to secure the availability of 4G cellular services in the remote regions of the nation in order to provide the general public with internet resources.
He said that all areas will have access to high-quality 4G services, including Waziristan, Chitral, Sindh, and other remote regions of the nation. These regions would also reap benefits from 5G services whenever they are introduced, he added. He stated that cellular businesses are encouraged to contribute to the development of 5G technology services. In response to another query, the Parliamentary Secretary noted that fiber-optic connections are being installed to guarantee the delivery of high-quality internet services throughout the country, including interior Sindh.
