The government of Pakistan is devising a national plan for building resilience to climate change and minimising losses from natural disasters, WealthPK reports.
Responding to a calling attention notice seeking information about immediate measures to mitigate the effects of climate change in the country, Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman told parliament that a national adaptation plan was being prepared for building resilience to climate change.
The notice was sponsored by three lawmakers including Aliya Kamran of MMAP, Dr Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto of PPPP and Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur of PPPP.
The minister said that Sindh province had also rolled out its climate change policy and other provinces should follow suit. She said that Pakistan was seeking climate justice from the world community to cope with the challenges posed by recent devastating floods in the country.
Parliamentary Secretary for Finance and Revenue Rana Muhammad Ishaq Khan responded to another calling attention notice regarding the proposed imposition of all taxes in Malakand division in 2023. The notice was sponsored by five lawmakers including Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali of MMAP, Ibadullah Khan of PML-N, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali of PTI, Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla of PTI and Ahmed Hussain Deharr of PTI.
The parliamentary secretary said that the federal government is committed to providing relief to all people and there was no plan to impose taxes in Malakand division.
