Over 3.7 million bales of cotton had arrived at ginning factories across the country by the first of this month, showing a decrease of 40.74% compared to the corresponding period of last year.
A fortnightly report of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) showed that over 3.5 million bales have undergone the ginning process.
Cotton arrivals in Punjab were recorded at over two million bales, registering a decrease of 29.40% compared to the corresponding period last year when arrivals were recorded at 2,935,119 bales, it said.
Sindh generated over 1.6 million bales, registering a decrease of 50.77% compared to the corresponding period last year when arrivals were recorded at 3,321,900 bales, the report added. Textile mills bought 3,036,129 bales, while exporters purchased 4,900 bales, and the Trading Corporation of Pakistan did not do any purchasing during the cotton season of 2022–23.
Sanghar district of Sindh topped the list with a cotton arrival figure of 795,447 bales, followed by the Bahawalnagar district of Punjab with 375,048 bales.
In total, 609 ginning factories are operational in the country, and exactly 666,664 bales of unsold stock were available in the ginning factories.
