Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to expedite digital transformation and accelerate innovation in the province, WealthPK reports.

The agreement will enable the provincial government to get a better understanding of the application of modern technology, which will result in improving the efficiency of different departments, reliability and security at a lower cost.

AWS is developing a training plan to build cloud competency, upskill government personnel and contribute to the development of the workforce. It will help the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to experience new ideas and provide enhanced services to citizens more quickly and at a lower cost.

KP Minister of Science and Technology and Information Technology Atif Khan said that cloud services would build the capacity of the KPITB and other government departments to maintain their data on a secure and reliable platform for the long term.

As part of these training initiatives, the KP government employees will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to implement cloud technologies at scale. In addition, they will make better business decisions based on data and develop new services that will improve citizen outcomes through the use of the cloud computing training programme.

AWS cloud skills include training unemployed and underemployed individuals in Pakistan for cloud careers through classroom-based programmes such as AWS re/Start, a 12-week training programme that covers fundamental cloud skills as well as practical career skills, such as interviewing and resume writing, to help the candidates get prepared for entry-level cloud roles.

After getting the training, the candidates can gain the technical skills they need for entry-level and mid-level cloud positions through coursework and hands-on laboratories. To prepare learners for job interviews, AWS re/Start also provides professional skills training such as resume writing and interview preparation.

Dr Ali Mahmud, Managing Director of KPITB, said that the MoU was in accordance with the government’s digital policy 2018, which was aimed at promoting information and communication technologies (ICTs) for the creation of employment opportunities, connectivity, empowerment and inclusive economic growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Eric Conrad, the Worldwide Public Sector Regional Managing Director of ASEAN, AWS, who directs AWS’s Asia Emerging Markets business, said that they were excited to collaborate with KPITB. He said that it was their first official engagement with a government agency in Pakistan to drive transformative innovation for the country, according to a statement received by WealthPK.
