Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has assured Chinese businesses of the government's all-out assistance in expediting projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), an official of the planning ministry told WealthPK. Following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent visit to China, a six-member delegation from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) led by its President Lin Songtian met Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and reviewed the projects under CPEC.
Speaking at the meeting, the minister said that the recent joint coordination committee meeting and the visit by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China were obvious indications that both countries have decided to resurrect the CPEC project. The minister also emphasised the importance of the railway's Main Line-1 and Karachi Circular Railway projects, which were discussed during the prime minister's recent visit. He added that China and all parties have agreed to start these projects as soon as possible.
The official told WealthPK that during the discussion, the minister reminded the group about the importance of the agricultural sector, noting that Pakistan has enormous potential in this area and can export meat and vegetables to China. The minister also emphasised Pakistan's rapid growth and requested collaboration from China, which has competence in the export sector. The creation of special economic zones was also discussed in the meeting, the ministry official said.
