KP traders urge govt to review decision on early closure of markets

December 26, 2022

A representative body of traders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has called upon the federal government to review its decision regarding the closure of markets and restaurants at 8pm and banquet halls at 10pm as part of energy conservation plan. According to a press statement received by WealthPK, President KP Traders Unity Mujeebur Rehman said that traders of the province had suffered huge financial losses first due to law and order issues, and later due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said now the early closure of markets, restaurants and gathering halls would adversely affect their business.

Mujeeb pointed out that the KP province was relatively placed at a disadvantageous location due to its long distance from Karachi Port, and its traders were spending more on transportation of goods compared to other provinces. He expressed hope that the decision regarding the closure of markets and wedding halls would be reviewed in the largest interest of the traders and business community and decisions in this regard would be taken after consultation of trade bodies.
