The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication plans to increase information technology (IT) related exports to $5 billion by the end of next year. The ministry has set a target of $15 billion IT related exports for the following three years, an IT ministry official informed the media. He reaffirmed the ministry's determination to make every effort to meet the target.
He said some 88% of Pakistanis now own mobile phones, and the IT ministry has set a goal of providing every citizen with a smartphone by the year 2030. In the preceding three years, he stated, the number of individuals in the country using mobile phones has increased from 160 million to 195 million.
According to him, over Rs 65 billion has been spent over the past four years on increasing connectivity in the country’s underserved and distant regions. Increasing connection is essential to getting the country on the path to development, wealth, and progress, he continued. He said all decisions in the information technology industry are reached through collaboration with all parties involved.
