Internship program launched for fresh engineers

Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) have agreed to provide internship opportunities to fresh graduates of engineering for their professional development. Under the agreement fresh graduates of engineering will be given a chance to work with PEDO for one year and paid a monthly remuneration of PKR30,000.

The main objective of the internship program is to train fresh graduates in practical skills so that they could provide young and energetic manpower for the development of industry in the KPK province. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the internship program was signed between PEC and PEDO in Peshawar.

Chief Executive Officer PEDO, Engineer Naeem Khan, while speaking at the occasion said that PEDO is one of the most successful organizations of the provincial government with a successful track record of 32 years. He said that PEDO generated the most revenue for the provincial coffers with total contributions more than PKR5 billion. He added that PEDO has already completed 7 projects which are generating 161-MW of cheap electricity.

He informed that 7 more projects will be completed soon that will generate 224-MW of electricity and generate a revenue of PKR4 billion.He continued, “PEDO’s income will increase from PKR43 billion to PKR60 billion in the next ten years. It will become the country’s largest energy provider in the coming years.”

Engineer Najeeb Haroon, Chairman of PEC,  for his part said that the technical sector is very important in the development of the country and said that only engineers could get the country out of the current crisis. He appreciated the efforts of PEDO and PkHA for starting the internship program for engineers and termed it as a big step towards the elimination of unemployment.

The meeting was also addressed by the Managing Director of PkHA, Ahmed Nabi Sultan; Vice Chairman PEC, Ijaz Ansari; Ex-Secretary C&W, Engineer Zahid Arif among others. At the end of the ceremony, shields were also distributed among the distinguished guests.
