High-density organic farming offers greater economic returns so it should be introduced to small farmers for better yields, Secretary of South Punjab Saqib Ateel said.
Farmers can earn Rs 0.8 million to Rs 1 million from one acre after adopting a high-density organic orchard, he said while chairing a meeting.
Experts from the Agriculture Department informed that 650 saplings of guava, pomegranate, lemon, potato, peach, date and mango were planted at an acre in Bahawalpur. Similarly, garlic, onion, carrot and turnip are also grown in the same field.
Vegetables and fruit trees were planted in the same way at two other farms in Crore Lal Aisan and Vehari and the farmers earned a substantial profit, the experts said. The fields are managed with the help of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides.
