The first annual multidisciplinary conference on ‘Advancing Research in Challenging Times’ concluded at Northwest School of Medicine Peshawar. More than 1,000 delegates attended the two-day event. Faculty members, students and health professionals presented 171 research papers in the fields of medicine, surgery, paediatrics and basic sciences, according to a statement received by WealthPK.
Experts from major institutions of the province, including Khyber Teaching Hospital, Lady Reading Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Khyber Girls Medical College and Rehman Medical Institute, as well as health professionals from Islamabad attended the conference. Around 200 professionals also attended the scientific workshops on various health-related disciplines.
Principal Prof Noorul Iman informed the participants about the importance of the conference for academic advancement and the exchange of ideas for future research collaboration and development. He said the activity contributed to the career development of young researchers and experts alike.
Chairman of Alliance Healthcare Limited (AHL) Prof Tariq Hashim Khan, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that AHL was the only healthcare institution in Pakistan that was a member of the G4 Alliance comprising over 170 nations. He said that G4 Alliance was meant to bridge public health gaps arising from the lack of safe, affordable, accessible health services to the deserving population.
“G4 is engaged in promoting improved access to quality surgical, obstetric, trauma and anaesthesia services as well as quality healthcare globally,” he said.
He said that the NWSM would promote the vision and mission of the G4 Alliance with dedication and commitment. In the concluding event, the top three position holders in poster and oral presentations were awarded cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. In poster presentations, Hassan Kareem of Rahman College of Nursing, Salman Zahir of NWSM and Khansa Khan of NWSM were awarded the first, second and third position, respectively.
In the oral research paper presentation, Mohammad Hassan Wahid of Peshawar Medical College, Komal Qayyum of NWSM and Daniyal Ahmad of NWSM were the top three position holders, respectively, said the statement.
