Gas companies to invest Rs113.9 billion in different schemes

Two state-owned companies collectively provided gas facilities to around 108 villages and towns in Pakistan through their respective networks during the last financial year, WealthPK reports. The companies have planned to invest Rs113.9 billion in different projects during the current fiscal.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Sothern Gas Company (SSGC) laid a 67-kilometre gas transmission network, 3,244-kilomere main and 829-kilomoere service lines, according to an official document. SNGPL and SSGC also provided around 259,212 additional gas connections including 257,644 domestic, 1473 commercial and 95 industrial ones across the country compared to 304,573 additional gas connections provided during the same period in the fiscal year 2020-21.

According to the document, the indigenous supply of natural gas declined around 5% and its contribution was recorded at 33.1% in the total primary energy supply mix of the country. The available statistics indicate that Pakistan has an extensive gas network of more than 13,513-kilometre transmission, 155,679-kilometre distribution and 41,231-kilometre service gas pipelines to cater to the requirement of millions of consumers. The number of gas consumers has increased from 10.3 million to more than 10.7 million across the country.

Both companies have planned to invest Rs27,669 million in transmission projects, Rs77,484 million in distribution projects and Rs8,746 million in other schemes, which will take the total investment to Rs113,899 million during the current fiscal, according to the document available with WealthPK.
