Exports to European countries grow in November

Pakistan exported goods worth $3.008 billion to its top six European trading partners during the first five months (July-November) of the current financial year, representing a growth of 10% compared to $2.742 billion during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Data available from the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) shows that exports from Pakistan to Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Belgium and France reached $588 million in November 2022 compared to $626 million during the same month of the previous fiscal year, showing a decline of 6%.

Germany was the top recipient of different goods from Pakistan during 5MFY23 followed by the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Belgium, and France. On YoY basis, exports to Germany declined by 13% to $144 million in November 2022 compared to $166 million in November 2021. During the first five months of the current fiscal year, exports to Germany were recorded at $735.58 million compared to $717.18 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Data from the UN Comtrade database shows that other made textile articles, sets, worn clothing, articles of apparel knit or crocheted, articles of apparel not knit or crocheted, articles of leather, animal gut, harness, travel goods, and cotton are major export items from Pakistan to Germany.

Exports from Pakistan to the Netherlands reached $134 million in November 2022 compared to $138 million in November 2021, representing a decline of $4 million. During July-November FY23, exports to the Netherlands grew by 11% to $707.1 million compared to $633.3 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year. Major exports from Pakistan to the Netherlands include other made textile articles, sets, worn clothing, articles of apparel not knit or crocheted, articles of apparel knit or crocheted, cotton, and cereals.

In Nov 2022, exports from Pakistan to Spain grew by 5% and reached $115 million against $109 million in Nov 2021. During July-November FY23, exports to Spain were recorded at $594.16 million, up 25% from $476.53 million during the same period of FY22. Pakistan’s exports to Spain mainly include apparel not knitted or crocheted, apparel knitted or crocheted, other textile articles, clothing sets, worn clothing, and cotton.

Exports to Italy were recorded at $95 million in November 2022 compared to $93 million in the same month of the previous fiscal year. From July-November FY23, exports to Italy reached $455.15 million, up from $399.8 million in July-Nov FY22. Major export items from Pakistan to Italy include other made textile articles, sets, worn clothing, cotton, articles of apparel not knit or crocheted, articles of apparel knit or crocheted, and cereals.

In November 2022, exports from Pakistan to Belgium and France were recorded at $59 million and $41 million compared to $76 million and $44 million, respectively, during the same month of the previous fiscal. From July-November FY23, exports to Belgium and France reached $302.83 million and $213.26 million against $318.67 million and $197.23 million, respectively, during the same period of the last fiscal year. Major exports from Pakistan to Belgium and France include other made textile articles, sets, worn clothing, articles of apparel knit or crocheted, articles of apparel not knit or crocheted, cereals and cotton.
