Exports go up by 40% in first two months of FY23

The export of different items from Pakistan showed an increase of 40.53% during the first two months of the current financial year as compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, WealthPK reports. According to a report of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), exports from the country during July and August of the financial year 2022-23 reached Rs1,043,046 million against Rs742,226 million in July and August of 2021-22, showing an increase of 40.53%.

On a year-on-year basis, exports from the country increased by 48.67% and reached Rs.548,326 million in August 2022 against Rs.368,814 million in August 2021. On a month-on-month basis, exports from Pakistan increased by 10.84% in August 2022 as compared to Rs494,720 million in July 2022. In August 2022, knitwear worth Rs99,362 million, readymade garments worth Rs72,897 million and bedwear worth Rs57,055 million were exported from Pakistan.

Likewise, cotton cloth worth Rs43,159 million, rice other than Basmati worth Rs22,569 million, cotton yarn worth Rs19,679 million, towels worth Rs6,574 million, made-up articles worth Rs13,355 million, crude petroleum worth Rs12,056 million and Basmati rice Rs9,179 million were exported from the country.

On the other hand, imports in July and August of the current fiscal reached Rs2,436,754 million against Rs1,969,047 million during the corresponding period of last financial year, showing an increase of 23.75%. The import of different items to Pakistan during August 2022 reached Rs1,341,024 million against Rs1,095,730 million in July 2022 and Rs1,079,268 million during August 2021.

The main commodities of import during August 2022 included petroleum products worth Rs205,549 million, crude petroleum worth Rs104,572 million, palm oil worth Rs92,096 million, liquified natural gas worth Rs88,118 million, plastic materials worth Rs46,649 million, wheat worth Rs44,977 million, electrical machinery and apparatus worth Rs43,114 million, iron and steel scrap worth Rs34,396 million, raw cotton worth Rs32,916 million and iron and steel worth Rs32,617 million, according to the report available with WealthPK.
