Financial experts and leaders of the business community have termed the visit of Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar to the United States of America highly successful, WealthPK reports.
They appreciated the minister for informing the representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB) and friendly countries about the financial difficulties of Pakistan due to the recent devastating floods.
Renowned economist and researcher Dr Shahid Hassan Siddiqui told WealthPK that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar informed the representatives of IMF, WB and friendly countries that Pakistan suffered heavy losses and its infrastructure was damaged in the wake of the recent devastating floods. He told them that Pakistan was in dire need of financial support for relief and rehabilitation activities in the affected areas, he added.
He said that United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during his visit to the flood-hit areas of the country termed the damage unpresented and called on the international community to support Pakistan in that difficult situation.
Mr Siddiqui said that an IMF delegation will visit Pakistan next month. He added that IMF had already expressed sympathies with Pakistan and will announce some relaxation in its conditions for loans.
He called upon the developed countries to help Pakistan as they are responsible for high carbon emissions and global warming that resulted in natural disasters including floods.
Known businessman Meher Kashif Younis also appreciated Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for presenting Pakistan’s case before IMF, WB, friendly countries and other donor organisations in a befitting manner after the unprecedented floods in the country.
He told WealthPK that the international community would come forward and support Pakistan in its gigantic task of relief and rehabilitation process.
It may be mentioned here that the federal minister for finance led a delegation in the IMF/World Bank’s 2022 annual meetings held in Washington DC.
