November 17, 2022

Training migrants in technical and vocational skills is important before they emigrate into the European Union countries. The agreement for the said purpose was reached in principle between the European Union (EU) and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) of Pakistan.

A meeting in this regard was held between a delegation of EU members led by Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Migration & Home Affairs, Amir Ashraf Khawaja, Federal Secretary of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and Sajid Baloch, Executive Director of NAVTTC.

During the meeting, Executive Director of NAVTTC Sajid Baloch said, “we are working on equipping our youth with the technical skills required by the industry of Europe. These skills are designed to help them earn more money by being in the domain of high productivity and high-yielding trades. They include e-commerce, digital marketing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), internet of things, graphic designing and data analysis.”

Commissioner for Migration & Home Affairs of the EU Ylva Johansson responded by saying that “EU is fully committed to helping Pakistan in developing the skills-capacity of its youth and enhancing their technical training. We want to see more Pakistani youth employed in European countries in high-paying jobs.”

Federal Secretary for Education Amir Ashraf Khawaja, said, “we are working diligently to bring the skill-set of our youth at par with the youth of developed countries so that they can compete with them in getting high-paying jobs.”

He continued, “our emigrating youth will not only contribute towards the continuing operations of the European industry but also help Pakistan increase its remittances for national development.”

Members of the EU delegation were appreciative of the efforts of NAVTTC in imparting high-value quality skills to the Pakistani youth. NAVTTC executive director thanked the EU for its continual support and help to Pakistan in difficult times.

It is pertinent to mention here that the NAVTTC has undertaken extensive programs for imparting skills and technical and vocational training to the youth of the country. It has also worked to organize the TVET system of the country on modern lines keeping in view the international standards.
