China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) holds the key to the economic development of Pakistan. It is also a project that will further cement the long-lasting friendship between the iron-brother countries China and Pakistan. Government is fully committed to making sure that CPEC reaches its completion in time.
The statement was made by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong.
Ishaq Dar told the ambassador that Pakistan was going through a difficult phase of economic re-adjustment and political instability. Climate change has also affected the country’s infrastructure and badly hurt the economy. Therefore, Pakistan is reliant more than ever on the help from friendly countries. He thanked the ambassador for the Chinese help of RMB 15 billion (USD 2.24 billion) to the country in wake of the recent floods.
Nong Rong reaffirmed the Chinese Government’s continued support to Pakistan and thanked the Government of Pakistan for facilitating Chinese companies in various projects in Pakistan. He also extended full support and cooperation of the Chinese Government in developing Special Economic Zones in different parts of the country under CPEC.
The proposed visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to China was also discussed in the meeting and both sides hoped that the visit will enhance bilateral relations between both countries.
