Experts on food science have converged on the University of Sargodha (UoS) from Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, South Korea, Iran, Bangladesh and Pakistan to participate in a two-day conference with the theme of “Recent Advances in Food Chemistry and Natural Products Research,” organized by the Institute of Chemistry and Institute of Food Science and Nutrition.
Experts will present their research and debate various topics in the field of food science, including food composition, functional food, nutraceuticals, bioactive components, natural antioxidants, herbal products, analysis of food and drugs, importance of agricultural waste and sustainable food systems.
The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by UoS Vice Chancellor Dr Qaisar Abbas, Dr Bisma Elahi from UK, Dr Umar Farik from Türkiye, Dr Ahmed Hanif and Dr Yaya Rakiyadi from Malaysia, Director of Institute of Chemistry Dr Farooq Anwar, Director of Institute of Food Science and Nutrition Dr Anjum Murtaza as well as many students and faculty members.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Qaiser Abbas said that the importance of science lies in the fact that its fruits reach the common people. If society does not benefit from practical advances in food science, there will arise a need for introspection on the part of scientists and researchers.
“UoS has a fraternity of excellent faculty members and researchers and they are working diligently to find innovative solutions for sustainable development of the country. All fields of social and natural sciences are being researched upon by members of the university’s academic fraternity to contribute towards the advance of human civilization,” he said.
Thereafter, various experts and participants also addressed the conference and appreciated the university administration for arranging such a thought-provoking conference.
