February 22, 2023

The government of Pakistan said the number of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) beneficiaries would reach 9 million by June 2023. The BISP is the largest social safety net program in the country, Parliamentary Secretary for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Net Division Naveed Aamir Jeeva said while addressing a press conference at the BISP South Zone Punjab office in Multan after the inauguration of the Benazir Dynamic Registry Centre. He said the BISP financial assistance program was a ray of hope for the neglected people of society.

Jeeva said that over eight million beneficiaries across the country were getting quarterly aid without any discrimination. He recalled that the BISP was launched for deserving and poor people in society, and was being appreciated globally. About the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif (education scholarship) program, the parliamentary secretary said that millions of children of the BISP beneficiaries were getting quality education through this program. He informed that the strength of the scholarship program was also being enhanced to help the maximum number of beneficiary children.

Jeeva said the BISP Nashonuma (growth) program was also a great step for women and children in stunting prevention. He said that food packages were offered for children’s health. “The inclusion of transgender persons is also another initiative of the incumbent government to aid the weaker segments,” Jeeva added. He said that financial support was started to help transgender persons without identity cards. He said a dynamic registry program has also been launched for the transparent registration of beneficiaries through the latest technology. Jeeva urged deserving people to visit nearby BISP offices for registration and digital survey.
