Balochistan is rich in natural resources and it acts as an important trade and economic link between Pakistan and Central Asian countries as well as a number of other countries in the Indian Ocean. "But, we have not been able to fully exploit this potential because of our own weaknesses and mistakes," Pakistan Businesses Forum Balochistan Chapter Chairman Daroo Khan Achakzai said, while addressing members of the Chaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI). Pakistan's bright future is connected to Balochistan because of its geostrategic and geoeconomic significance, he added.
He said General Syed Asim Munir has visited major locations since becoming the Chief of Army Staff, which demonstrates his priorities and efforts to protect the country's peace and security. The army chief, during his visit to Quetta and Turbat, also promised that every effort would be made to ensure the security and safety of Balochistan's citizens in order to promote their socioeconomic development.
The opening of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has given a chance to continue in that direction, but much more work must be done to make advantage of the province's enormous natural resource endowments, including oil, coal, gold, copper, and gas reserves, Achakzai said.
It can be confidently stated that hostile elements are still present in the province and must be driven out and caught as soon as possible, he said. Only by resolving the long-standing problems and complaints of the Baloch people would the region experience lasting peace, he said. The federal government must make a significant effort to prevent future exploitation of the people by Pakistan's adversaries, according to Achakzai.
Pakistan Business Forum Vice Chairperson Sana Durrani proposed holding a large-scale dialogue with the Baloch leadership and developing a roadmap for the development of Balochistan. She continued, "this road plan must demonstrate the government's sincerity of intent and commitment to resolving the problems of the Baloch people. According to Sana Durrani, "time has come to undo the negligence and mistakes of the past and move forward with a spirit of unity to ensure a bright future for every region of Pakistan."
