Chairman of Pakistan Hi-Tech Hybrid Seed Association Shahzad Ali Malik urged local exporters to fully untap the potential of agricultural products’ export to Chinese markets.
There is a great demand in China for tasty fruits and hygienic vegetables, which need to be fully scrutinised, he said while talking to a delegation of exporters. The government was taking concrete measures to help Pakistani exporters get more and more export orders from the Chinese importers, he added.
Shahzad said Pakistan’s trade surplus with China in agri-products reached $527 million and it would be enhanced manifolds in the days to come. The country’s agricultural products exported to China from January to August 2022 reached $730 million with a year-on-year increase of 28.59%. He said Pakistan’s agricultural exports to China were expected to exceed a record high of $1 billion within three months.
Shahzad said it was a good omen that Pakistan was working actively with its Chinese counterparts to boost exports of other Pakistani products.
He said agricultural products exports to China did not match with the vast scope of Chinese markets. Pakistani businessmen could export their whole stock of fruits, vegetables, sesame seeds, pine nuts and seafood to Chinese markets to earn better foreign exchange, he added.
Shahzad Ali Malik stressed the need to improve the quality of products in line with international standards to dominate the global markets. He said the use of hi-tech hybrid seeds for rice and maize would definitely boost their production and increase their profitability.
