October 24, 2022

The 306km-long Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) megaproject will be completed in 30 months according to international standards, Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Maulana Asad Mahmood said.

“A new era of economic and social development will begin in the areas through which the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) project will pass,” he said while presiding over a meeting of the National Highway Council, a supreme body of the National Highway Authority (NHA).

Addressing the meeting, Asad Mahmood said the motorway will consist of six lanes. He said the motorway was a long-standing demand of the people of Sindh, according to a press release received by WealthPK.

He said that the government is endeavouring to provide a solid infrastructure for economic development in the country and the construction and expansion of national highways and motorways are the top priority.

Asad said the government encourages the involvement of the private sector in the construction of road infrastructure. He said that the construction of the motorway project on the basis of a public-private partnership will prove to be a model and a revolutionary project.

Chairman of NHA Capt (Retired) Muhammad Khurram Agha said, “The Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project is the last missing section of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway and its completion will provide a motorway facility between Karachi and Peshawar.” Some 15 interchanges, one major bridge on the Indus River, 19 overpass bridges, 82 bridges on canals and 6 flyovers will be built on the 306 km-long motorway, he added.

Agha said a 61 km-long service road will also be constructed along the motorway. The motorway will cost more than Rs 307 billion and its maximum speed limit will be 130km per hour. On both sides of the motorway, service areas and rest areas will be available every 50 km, he added.

The motorway will pass through the districts of Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Matiari, Benazirabad, Nowshehro Feroze, Khairpur and Sukkur, “which will bring about economic and social development there as well as new livelihood opportunities,” the NHA chairman said.
