Over 1.88 million new electricity consumers were added to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and K-Electric (KE) systems during last fiscal year (2021-22).
Out of the total power consumers, over 1.66 million have been added to the CPPA, while 220,000 have been added to the K-Electric system during the said period, according to information available with WealthPK.
With the addition, the total number of consumers of the CPPA system surged to 33,189,794 from 31,529,589 during last financial year. Similarly, the number of consumers of KE also jumped to 3,405,332 from 3,185,332 during the period under review.
The addition of electricity consumers has also contributed towards an increase in the sales of power distribution companies (DISCOs) including KE. In DISCOs, the sale of electricity touched 107,860 GWh during FY 2021-22 as compared to 99,370 GWh during FY 2020-21, while in KE, it jumped to 16,763 GWh during FY 2021-22 as compared to 16,068 GWh during FY 2020-21.
Moreover, the overall assets of DISCOs including KE have increased as a result of investments made by the distribution licensees during the said period.
