Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, counsel for former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, has written a letter to the superintendent Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi in which he has said that his client is being denied the basic right of access to justice. He has said that Imran’s signatures on the power of attorney are necessary for filing appeals in the Supreme Court.

“I visited the jail twice to get the signatures of the former prime minister, but I was not allowed to meet him,” the lawyer has said, adding that the jail administration is continuously employing delaying tactics. Chaudhry has further said that the lack of interest on the part of jail officials in the matter amounts to a violation of jail rules. He has said that the deadline set for filing an appeal in the apex court is going to expire soon.

“I also want to draw the attention of IG Prisons to this matter,” he has said, adding that he has also informed the SP Police Saddar Circle about the seriousness of the matter. The lawyer has demanded that he be allowed to meet his client within 24 hours so that he could get his signatures on legal documents. He has warned the jail officials of legal action if he is denied access to Imran.
