As US Vice President J.D. Vance is on his official visit to India, a Sikh group known of championing the Khalistan movement has raised the issue of the Modi regime’s alleged involvement in planning and abetting murder plot of Sikh for Justice leader and US citizen Gurpreet Singh Pannun. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is an SFJ leader and a prominent Khalistan advocate, has penned a letter to Vance urging him to address the alleged Indian plot to assassinate him.

In the letter, Pannun accused a close aide of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of paying $250,000 to orchestrate his killing and urged the US vice president to confront Indian authorities on the matter. “The Modi government is involved in a conspiracy to kill a US citizen. This is not just a personal threat, it’s a threat to American sovereignty and justice,” Pannun stated in a letter, which was also posted to SFJ’s official X account.

He demanded that any trial regarding the attempted murder of an American citizen should take place under US laws in American courts. The allegations come amid increasing global scrutiny over India’s role in attacks on Sikh activists abroad, following similar claims made in the US and Canada over the past year. Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held Indian government responsible for target killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

The Guardian published story in which it claimed involvement of India in target killing of over 20 known personalities in Pakistan reflecting footprints of Indian state sponsored terrorism in Pakistan. If Indian involvement in target killing of dissident voices goes unpunished, then it would set the wrong precedent and embolden other countries to commit similarly heinous crimes.
