Three traffic police personnel were martyred, and two civilians and a traffic officer were injured when unidentified armed attackers opened fire on a traffic police mobile in Wazirabad area of Tank district on Monday, police said. According to an initial police report, the incident took place within the limits of City Police Station in Wazirabad area. The deceased were identified as Constable Gul Amin, Constable Saleem Shah and traffic police driver Fayyaz.

Two passersby, Qaiser and Zafar Hussain, were also injured in the attack and shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Traffic in-charge Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Asmatullah was also reported injured in the incident. Police said the attackers fled the scene in the traffic police vehicle after the firing. A heavy contingent of police reached the site following the incident and cordoned off the area. A search operation was launched to trace the attackers, while an investigation into the incident is underway.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the martyrdom of the three police personnel and sought a report from the relevant authorities. The governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and colleagues of the martyred policemen and directed authorities to ensure the provision of all possible medical treatment to those injured in the attack. He also prayed for their speedy recovery. Earlier on Saturday, at least 11 people were martyred in a suicide attack in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail (DI) Khan.
