IHC bars Karachi, Lasbela police from taking action against Sh Rasheed
The Islamabad High Court on Monday restrained the police from taking any legal action on cases registered against former interior minister and Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad in the Mochko and Lasbela police stations. The AML chief on Saturday submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to nullify cases filed against him in Murree and Karachi, along with orders to prevent the police from taking him to Karachi until a final decision on the case was announced. Later, the investigation officer (IO) and the inspector for the case registered against Rashid in Karachi’s Mochko police station appeared before the Islamabad court and requested it to grant the Sindh police a transit remand of the AML chief so they could transfer him to Karachi. However, the court rejected the police’s request for transit remand while issuing a notice for Rashid’s bail petition to be heard on Feb 6 (today).
