BEIJING, June 20 (INP): China expects from Pakistan and India to get improved their bilateral ties through dialogue and consultation, said a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Geng Shuang here on Wednesday at a regular news briefing. Asked to comment on the reported statement of the Chinese ambassador to India regarding holding of a tripartite summit between China, India and Pakistan, the spokesperson said, “ We also hope that India and Pakistan will increase mutual trust and improve relations through dialogue and consultation. This is in the common interest of countries in the region.” India and Pakistan are both Chinese neighbors and friends. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with all neighboring countries including these two countries to promote stability and development in the region, he added. About the United States’ decision to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council, Geng Shuang said, China regrets that the United States has taken such a decision. He said, the establishment of the Human Rights Council by the General Assembly is an important platform for all parties to carry out dialogue and cooperation in the field of human rights, exchange and mutual understanding, and jointly promote the development of human rights undertakings. All parties attach great importance to this. China has always advocated and committed itself to safeguarding multilateralism, supporting the Human Rights Council and other mechanisms to work together to jointly promote and protect human rights worldwide. China will continue to work with all parties to make its own contribution to the healthy development of the international human rights cause through constructive dialogue and cooperation, he added. The spokesperson went on to added, “the US attitude toward the UN Human Rights Council has caused dissatisfaction among most countries in the world. The United States knows this well. As for the U.S. accusations of human rights conditions in China and other countries, it is completely disregarding the facts. The tremendous development and progress made in China’s human rights cause can be seen by anyone without prejudice. Regarding your second question, China has made a formal response to the recent announcement of the US tax collection. I just want to emphasize again that dialogue is stronger than confrontation on economic and trade issues. We always advocate that China and the United States properly handle economic and trade issues through dialogue and consultation. Previously, China and the United States held three consultations on economic and trade issues and made some progress. During the consultations, China demonstrated full sincerity and goodwill. China does not provoke a trade war or fear a trade war. If anyone insists on launching a trade war, we will firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests. We will escort to the end. We have said this many times before.”
