PVF wants Govt. compensation over AVC penaltyBreaking

July 20, 2023

Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) has raised the issue of US 20,000 dollars with the federal government for non-participation in AVC Challenge Cup due to non-issuance of NOC by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the details, Chairman of Pakistan Volleyball Federation Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob has written a letter to Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Shoaib Khoso and their copies have also been sent to Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ehsan ur Rehman Mazari, Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary IPC Ahmed Hanif Orakzai to highlighted all the reasons on imposing fine by Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).

PVF chairman informed them that AVC Challenge Cup for Men was scheduled from 08 -15 July 2023 in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei in which 17 countries confirmed their participation including Pakistan and Pakistan volleyball team was scheduled to depart on 05 July for Chinese Taipei but we were informed at the last minute that foreign office has not issued NOC to the Pakistan Volleyball Team for participation in the AVC Cup under one China Policy. The letter also explained to the foreign office that despite one China policy, even teams of China go and participate in Taiwan and vice versa as Taiwan plays under the name of Chinese Taipei as per IOC instructions but due to not participation the asian body has fined US dollars 20,000 under the Asian Volleyball Confederation rules.

PVF requested the federal government to help the federation as they are not capable and afford such a huge fine immediately which has been imposed by the AVC as future participation of Pakistan in all international volleyball competitions will also be in jeopardy. Foreign office may also be requested to review its guidelines related with Taiwan as China is sending their teams to Taiwan and also allows Taiwan teams to visit and play under IOC Charter then why should Government of Pakistan not have China and follow IOC rules to remain part of international comity of Sports.
