Two dead, 24 hurt as passenger coach turns turtle near Kallar KaharBreaking

January 30, 2023

Two people were killed and 24 others injured when a passenger coach turned turtle near Kallar Kahar Interchange on Motorway on Monday. According to motorway police, the coach flipped due to slippery caused by rain on the road, killing two passengers and injuring 24 others. The coach was going to Lahore from Rawalpindi.

The dead and injured were shifted to a Trauma Centre in Kallar Kahar. A day earlier, as many as 41 people were killed when a coach plunged off a bridge on Sunday and fell into a ditch near Chungi stop in Lasbela. The bus was reportedly carrying a total of 48 passengers when it hit a pillar on the bridge and careened off course earlier on Sunday.

It had been travelling overnight between Quetta and Karachi. Ramshackle highways, lax safety measures and reckless driving contribute to Pakistan's dire road safety record.

Passenger buses are frequently crammed to capacity and seatbelts are not commonly worn, meaning high death tolls from single vehicle accidents are common. According to World Health Organization estimates, more than 27,000 people were killed on Pakistan's roads in 2018.
