Two dacoits were killed in a shootout with police and villagers in a suburban village of Sukkur. A villager also died and two others sustained injuries in the shootout, police said on Monday.According to Sukkur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanghar Ali Malik, a band of dacoits entered Varayu Mehar village in the limits of Tamachani police station with the intention of carrying out a robbery. The villagers informed the police. On information, a heavy police contingent reached the spot and surrounded the robbers with the help of the villagers. The robbers opened fire after seeing themselves being encircled by the police and the villagers. The police and the villagers fired back in retaliation.
Two dacoits died in retaliatory firing by the police and the villagers while three made their escape good. Three villagers were also injured in firing by the dacoits, and they were rushed to hospital. However, one of them succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. “The bodies of the slain robbers have been taken into custody by the police and shifted to hospital,” the Sukkur SSP said. “The identity of the deceased is being ascertained at the hospital after which the police will know about their criminal record. Arms have also been recovered from the possession of the slain robbers,” he added. Meanwhile, the police launched a search operation in the area for the arrest of the fleeing robbers.
