A tribal Jirga in consensus imposed complete ban the tradition of dowry in district Buner of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday. A tribal Jirga attended by a large number of tribesmen, religious scholars was organized in village Anzar Mera, tehsil Chagharzai of Buner to discuss the major hurdles in organizing the wedding of youngsters especially girls which often lead to illegal and immoral activities. The attendants were in consensus that dowry ritual was the major reason in delay or complete halt in organizing the wedding ceremonies of young girls.

Speaking on the occasion, the members of the Jirga said that major population of Buner was leading life before poverty line and in this situation dowry postpones the marriages of girls. They said that dowry tradition was against the Quran and Sunnah besides it puts additional burden on the parents. They Jirga in consensus imposed complete ban on dowry in relative area and vowed to extend its limits to maximum areas.
