An engine of a cargo train coming from Karachi to Lahore overturned near Harappa railway station in Sahiwal on Saturday derailing bogies loaded with goods. According to report, brakes failure caused the overturning of the engine which led to its complete destruction. As many as 10 to 12 cargo bogies went off the track. In the accident, one driver of the cargo train survived while the other was slightly injured.
The driver of the cargo train applied brakes and tried to stop the train by taking it to the emergency track. The engine's diesel leaked all over the track after the overturning which also led to suspension of trains’ movement. Police and other agencies reached the spot and launched the relief work. Bogie of Karachi-Rawalpindi Tezgam Express was separated from train after pump broke down at Mehrabpur station on Saturday.
According to Railway police, the bogie number 16 of train was separated from the train due to a broken pump. The broken bogie was separated from the train and passengers were accommodated in other bogies and the rest of the train will be sent after some time.
